Arona’s 50+ Club

I’m launching a pilot training programme for Sussex residents aged 50+ that will help them start a business or provide a service on a part-time basis.

They will be able to choose from three one-day courses in gift wrapping, making hampers and gift baskets, and a business workshop for those interested in setting up their own enterprise.  All can be booked online.  Each attendee will receive a free step by step DVD (RRP £14.99) to remind them of techniques learnt and will gain automatic membership of Arona’s 50+ Club that will have regular get-togethers when experiences can be shared and future collaborations discussed.

One of the aims of the pilot is to create a database of skilled wrappers which will be available to  retailers, charities and other organisations looking for seasonal, part-time or permanent staff as well as volunteers. Possible companies that would benefit from staff with these skills include gift, charity and jewellery shops, farmshops, vineyards and delis.

At a cost of £120.00 each, the first one-day courses will be on Monday 16th, Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th November, 10am to 4pm, at my studio in Hove.  Attendees will be able to offer gift wrapping or hamper services to local retailers, other businesses and charities particularly during the upcoming festive season.  It would also help them to increase sales and enhance customer service prior to St Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter and other gift-giving occasions including engagements, weddings and births.  Companies are already expressing interest in this enhanced workforce.  James Ross from James Ross Jewellers in Brighton said “What a great idea, fantastic for local businesses and communities alike.”

I’m starting this initiative for men and women aged 50+ who are ready for new opportunities and would like to put their many years of life experience to good use. Some may have been made redundant or forced into retirement or are in need of a way to increase their income. Alternatively they may simply be keen to turn a hobby into a career. For others it may be a way to bring colour into their lives after a period of bereavement or loneliness. I’m hoping that being part of the group will  provide the support members need to make a success of their new ventures.

The secret to success in business is customer service.  Retailers and etailers often don’t have the time, staff or inclination to wrap purchases for their customers.  Being able to call upon this trained workforce as required will result in increased sales, repeat business and a simple way to  create a point of difference from the competition.

The long term aim after piloting the scheme in Sussex is to roll it out around the UK.  Please let me know if you would be interested in having training courses in your area.
