Millinery Magic
I added another string to my bow
Some years ago I created a collection of chic hair accessories with ribbons normally used to decorate gifts. This was followed by an opportunity to learn from the best; milliner Sean Barrett whose exquisite hats are regularly seen on screen in productions including The Crown and Downton Abbey. He was inspiring, encouraging and sharing both with his time and techniques. Never having sewn a stitch in my life, I left after only a weekend workshop with my creative floodgates flung open!
Bespoke designs
I was keen but a novice so it was seriously scary when I started to be recommended to others. One of the first was a lady who, for years, had longed for a ring-shaped cocktail hat draped with netting. What a joy – and relief – that she loved her bespoke creation. Since then I’ve made fascinators for many special occasions including a music industry charitable event that had heads spinning when guests realised the host’s headwear included a 45rpm vinyl record!
At a summer school at the London College of Fashion I was encouraged to continue with my millinery designs for the wedding party. That was good advice as they have proven especially popular with mothers of the bride and groom.
I was really delighted with my fascinator. It was very comfortable and complemented my outfit. Many of the wedding guests commented on the fascinator and what I liked best is that I knew no one else would be wearing one the same. It was fun coming along to your studio and choosing the ribbons and beads and discussing what I wanted. Next time I need a fascinator I would definitely like to ask you to make it
Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss me designing something special for your upcoming event. My creations often include a selection of beads, pearls, wire, faux gemstones, feathers and quills as well as assorted ribbons and fabric as you can see from some of my bespoke designs.
